INITIAL CHANGES TO MAKE TO YOUR WORDPRESS
WordPress is a fantastic CMS, however, for a lot of people, there is a learning curve to it. There are some changes that you can make to your blog from the start to make things easier as you go along.
- Go to Settings>General
Verify that your time zone, email and other important information is correct. You’ll want to make sure that your WordPress Address and Site Address are your correct url.
- Go to Settings>Permalinks
The Permalinks determine how your blog post and page addresses look. You can select whichever structure you like, just realize that you’re going to want to stick with that structure. Changing your permalink structure can break older pages/post links if you don’t go back and correct them.
- Go to Settings>Privacy
Make sure that “Allow Search Engines” is checked.
Make sure your Site Title and Tagline are correct and filled out. The Site Title doesn’t have to be your site’s URL, you want it to be short and solid. The Tagline is the description for your site.
- Remove Sample Content
WordPress comes default with a sample post and page. This is so that you don’t open it up to a blank site. You do, however, want to just delete these samples.
To delete the Post- Go to Post>All Post you will see Hello World, you will see an option below to delete it.
To delete the Sample Page, go to Pages>All Pages. There you will see the Sample Page and you can click Delete.
