Blogging Terms and Definitions Dictionary II
Above the Fold– Used to describe the area that is immediately visible before scrolling down the page.
Archives– A collection of previous blog post, usually date, category, or tag based.
Backend– This is the administrative area of your site
Blogroll– A collection of links to other blogs, it’s often displayed in a sidebar
Breadcrumb– A display of parent links leading to the current page or post
Captcha– Used to prevent spam and requires you to enter in a combination of letters and number
Displayed on the screen in order to post a comment or login to an area.
Cornerstone Content- Also known as Evergreen Content. Describes post that are timeless, not seasonal.
CPanel– The back end of a web host.
Featured Image– An image that is set to represent the post as a thumbnail.
Front-End– The part of the site that is visible to the public.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol)- This is a method of uploading batches of files to a web host. FileZilla is often used as an FTP program.
Host– This is a company that stores the date for a website on their server.
Permalink– A permanent link to a post.
Pingback– An automatic notification sent by WordPress everytime a post is published to any post linked within that post.
Plugin– A piece of software that contains a group of functions which either add or extend the functionality of your WordPress site seamlessly.
Slug- The part of a permalink that identifies the name of the post or page.
