What are SMART GOALS?
Specific- What do you want to accomplish? This should be short, and as specific as possible.
Measurable- Identify targets and milestones that will be used to track your progress. It is important that the goal be trackable. For example it “increase Facebook followers” isn’t trackable. However, Increase Facebook followers by 10% is.
Attainable- Your goal should be realistic and manageable. Keep your goals realistic.
Relevant- Your goal fits with your business model.
Time-based- You’ve identified a specific time period for each goal:
- Yearly Goal
- Quarterly Goals
- 90 days Goal
- Monthly Goal
- Weekly Goal
- Daily Goal
Smart Goal Examples:
- Increase your traffic by 6% monthly, 100% by year end
- Create 1 Blog post a week
- Increase Email Opt-In
- Increase page views
Setting Goals
It’s important to make sure you set time-based goals. You want to set goals for a few time frames. I would suggest starting with a monthly goal, then adding a quarterly and yearly goal. Sitting down and creating your goals can feel really tough and overwhelming at first, however, it’s your roadmap to help you see what is working great and what you need to tweak or change.
You may find that at first to get an idea of growth you want to set weekly and monthly goals. That works too, just make sure you set a goal for your website or blog.
How To Start Setting Your Smart Goals
You want to pick 2-5 goals initially and make sure you keep them visible to ensure follow through.
Smart Goals is about making your goals achievable. You will still work hard and push yourself for growth, but the goals will make sense to you. Picking something out of a hat at random makes it easy to let go of because there’s not an attachment to seeing it’s possible to meet or exceed. The Balance provides great Business Goal Examples to help give you an idea of smart goals to set.
